‘EVASIVE’ action by NHS Highland over the issue surrounding Islay’s out-of-hours GP cover has been criticised by Argyll and Bute’s MSP.
Michael Russell recently met with islanders, including Islay’s exasperated GPs,who have elected to opt out of out-of-hours cover after conceding they could not cope with the workload.
At the time of their decision in July this year, the GPs called for an independent review into healthcare on Islay.
NHS Highland has so far refused to say whether it is even considering a review, although representatives have agreed to meet with the GPs and Islay Community Council’s healthcare sub-committee on October 18.
