WITH one of the best open heavyweight fields seen in recent years at the Argyllshire Gathering on August 23 2012,few were surprised when a record was broken in the heavy events.
Polish giant Lucas Wenta broke his own record of 57 feet and six inches, set a year ago in the Argyllshire Light Stone 16lbs.
The threat of rain proved to be unfounded as this year’s event basked in glorious sunshine.
The good weather encouraged a good turnout at Mossfield, where the stand and the hill were packed with people for most of the day, following the march to the games field from Oban town centre, led by gold medal winner Finlay Johnston, from Glasgow.
