The A83 is closed at the Rest and Be Thankful following another landslide around 4pm on Wednesday August 1 2012 with between 50-100 tonnes of debris blocking the road.

At 12.25pm on Thursday August 2,following a further landslide over night bringing down around 1,000 tonnes of debris TranservScotland, trunk roads contractor, confirmed the A83 remained closed:
‘Geotechnical assessments have continued through the morning and further material has continued to fall on to the carriageway.
‘The hillside remains in an unstable condition and monitoring is being carried out constantly.
‘Considerable plant and resources remain mobilised on site to commence operations when safety concerns have been addressed.
‘Further rain is forecast during the afternoon period.
‘Geotechnical experts will continue to carry out assessments throughout the day.’

An update after 4 pm confirmed the road would remain closed until Friday afternoon but work had started on clearing the debris.

Northbound traffic is being diverted via the A82 at Tarbet on to the A85 at Tyndrum, then joining the A819 at Dalmally to the A83 at Inveraray.

South bound traffic needs to follow the diversion in reverse.

Tonight’s planned closure at A82 Pulpit Rock has been cancelled. Traffic can still access the A83 as far as the B828 to Lochgoilhead and from Inveraray to the A815.
