IN A stunning repetition of Oban’s infamously brief fireworks display, organisers at an event in San Diego managed to release their pyrotechnics in a matter of seconds.
The ‘Big Bay Boom’ was held on July 4 to celebrate the American Independence Day but it became more of an ‘Obang 2’ when all the fireworks were set off in a mere 15 seconds.
Organisers are blaming a technical glitch for causing the fireworks to explode at once, the force of the explosions even caused car alarms to go off.
Over half a million spectators had showed up for the event, with some waiting for hours before the display to get a good spot.
Firework glitches are becoming big business, with last year’s ‘Obang’ event bringing the town worldwide headlines.
The Oban Times’ YouTube video of the event has amassed more than one million views and been used by news channels around the globe.
