POLICE officers will be taking the role of traffic wardens at selected times of the day in a bid to stop free-for-all parking in Oban’s town centre.
Since Strathclyde Police made the role of traffic warden redundant last year, there has been no policing of on-street parking bays, although Argyll and Bute Council has continued to oversee responsibility for car parks.
As of next Monday,Oban police officers will periodically monitor parking bays;checking tickets are displayed and are within the allotted time,in a bid to prevent motorists parking their cars on-street for prolonged periods.
The Oban Times spoke to townsfolk, visitors and businesses to find out what they think of the situation –see The Oban Times,July 5 2012 for their responses. Also available on line from the same date at www.obantimes.co.uk/digital
