Oban lifeboat went to the rescue of a yacht taking in water on Monday afternoon,April 30 2012,off Craignure in the Sound of Mull.
The Java Moon’s planked bowsprit had sprung up taking with it the stay secured in the stem leaving a substantial hole through which she was taking water fast.
The three crew took to a lifeboat and radioed for help. The CalMac ferry Clansman stood by and the passing motor cruiser Enigma picked up the three sailors from their liferaft.
Oban lifeboat arrived and placed two of her crew on to the Java Moon with a pump,preventing her from sinking and allowing her to eventually be taken into tow to the North Pier in Oban.
A spokesman for Oban lifeboat said:‘This service was an excellent example of the co-operation and willingness to assist which is the hallmark of such incidents at sea.’
