Nominations for candidates have closed in Argyll and Bute for the local council elections on May 3 2012.
A total of 77 candidates have registered to stand for election to Argyll and Bute Council,31 independents,18 SNP,11 Scottish Conservative and Unionists,nine Scottish Liberal Democrats,five Scottish Labour,two non-afliated,one Scottish Green,and one Scottish Christian ‘Proclaiming Christ’s Lordship.
There were 78 registered but the sad death of Alister MacAlister,who was standing in Dunoon for the SNP,has reduced the number to 77.
There are 36 seats across 11 wards to fill,with Oban North and Lorn attracting the largest number of candidates at 10,closely followed by the other Oban ward,Oban South and the Isles,which has attracted nine candidates.
