People are being warned to keep away from a 75-foot decommissioned fishing vessel marooned on the shoreline at Caol,Lochaber. The boat broke its moorings at Treslaig during the December 8 2011 storm and was driven across Loch Linnhe high up onto the shingle at Canal Parks.
Sometime on Saturday,February 4 a 12-man raft liferaft from the vessel was inflated, prompting the Fort William coastguard team to remove it to a place of safety.
The liferaft had been inflated by pulling a lanyard to a CO2 cylinder, described by Coastguard Lochaber sector manage Phil Wren as ‘extremely rusty and dangerous’. Twelve rocket flares were also found and taken away for safe disposal.
