THE LONG-running dispute over the future of out-of-hours 999 cover for a remote Lochaber community may be nearing an end after NHS Highland announced it had hired a replacement nurse for the area.
Avril MacGregor of Ballachulish will take over from Jessie Colquhoun in west Ardnamurchan when she retires later this month. NHSH said Ms MacGregor plans to relocate to west Ardnamurchan in the ‘near future’ – one of the major issues for local campaigners.
Health bosses also said an ambulance technician is moving to Kilchoan and has agreed to join an emergency responder team along with Ms MacGregor.
West Ardnamurchan Community Council chair Rosie Curtis told The Oban Times the announcement, which was made at a packed public meeting in Kilchoan on Tuesday evening, was a positive step.
