Alan Reid,MP for Argyll and Bute,has welcomed the announcement in the House of Commons on January 24 2012 by Chief Secretary to the Treasury Danny Alexander that almost every petrol retailer on the islands has signed up to the fuel duty discount scheme.
At Treasury Question Time in the House of Commons,Mr Reid had asked Mr Alexander for an update on progress towards introducing the fuel duty discount scheme.
In reply,the Chief Secretary said that the 5p a litre fuel duty discount scheme would be available to customers at island filling stations from 1 March. He added that almost every petrol retailer on the islands has signed up to the scheme.
Speaking afterwards,Alan Reid said:“I am pleased that almost every island petrol retailer has already signed up to the scheme. I hope that every island petrol retailer will have signed up by 1 March,so that all island motorists can benefit from the 5p reduction in the price of petrol and diesel at the pumps on that date.”
