Northern Constabulary declared Lochaber a major incident area earlier this evening as the storm,with 80-90mph gusts of wind and heavy rain,created havoc on roads with flooding, fallen trees and a landslip.
The A82 is currently closed at the Corran Ferry,south of Fort William due to a landslide,one mile north of Corran Ferry. This situation will be monitored and there are no diversions in place. The major route into Fort William was also affected by fallen trees at Letterfinlay. Several lorries were blown over in Glencoe and a bus had its windscreen blown in.
In Caol Highland Council’s emergency planning team came into play,with mobile floodgates taken to homes in Alexandra Square,Glendessary Terrace,Glenmallie Terrace,Glenmallie Road and Erracht Drive.
The A87 at the Skye Bridge is closed to all vehicles due to high winds. This situation will be monitored.
