Pyro1 did Oban proud by marking the end of the Winter Festival with a spectacular fireworks display from the Northern Lighthouse Board pier tonight,November 27 2011,making up for the 50-sec fiasco on November 4.
And Oban and Lorn folk did the town proud by turning out in their hundreds to watch the display, despite some horrendous wind and rain, organised by Pyro1 as something of an apology for the mishap that saw £6,000-worth of fireworks go up in 50 secs at the original show.
The resulting video by The Oban Times posted on YouTube has had more than 870,000 hits –and has given the town an unexpected boost by putting it firmly on the map, with media coverage from all over the world.
Councillor Roddie McCuish, who is chairman of the Oban Fireworks organising committee, told The Oban Times tonight following the display:‘I think that was absolutely fantastic. I think Pyro1,in my opinion, are the number one firework company in the whole of Britain.’
As a result of the number of positive comments on The Oban Times YouTube video regarding the spectacular nature and brevity of the November 4 display,Pyro1 have now introduced a display called after its namesake ‘Obang’.
