The Oban Times

‘It will no doubt be pleasing to breeders of Highland Cattle to know (writes an esteemed correspondent) that so much interest has been taken in the recent sale at Oban that it has now been cinematographed.
‘The films are given in some of the principal picture houses in Edinburgh,as being one of the leading events of the agricultural season, when some seven thousand head of cattle were disposed of. The disembarking of cattle were disposed of.
‘The disembarking of cattle from the West Highland steamers is vividly correct, when every movement is depicted, even down to the ruthless twisting of a stubborn animal’s tail,a practice commonly resorted to when he refuses to obey orders in the process of being shipped or landed.
‘Notwithstanding the large percentage of other cattle sold at Messrs Corsons’ auction mart, only the picturesque Highlanders, with their beautiful shaggy coats and resplendent horns were photographed. It may be added that these films were shown in the Oban Cinema House in the course of last week.’
In the course of research into a series of features running in The Oban Times as part of its 150th anniversary year,The Oban Times editor Stewart MacKenzie came across the above report and was delighted to find that the film referred to still exists with British Pathe.
