PORTREE RNLI Lifeboat launched with a crew of five to help a yacht caught up in fishing gear in heavy seas yesterday.
The Wild Call,a Nauticat 42 with three people aboard, had fouled a fleet of prawn creels half way between the north end of Rona and the mouth of Loch Torridon. A buoy and rope were wrapped round the yacht’s rudder.
Efforts to free the yacht were unsuccessful and it was taken under tow back to Portree in rough seas and 45 knot winds, arriving at 4.15pm. There were no casualties.
Portree Lifeboat Coxswain,David Urquhart said:‘Trying to free the yacht from the fleet of creels was tricky given the sea state and strong wind but we were glad to be of assistance.’
