KINLOCHSHIEL were crowned North Division 1 champions at the home of rivals Skye Camanachd after posting a comprehensive 5-1 win to seal their place in the Scottish Hydro premier Division next season.
Skye did all they could to avoid ‘Shiel taking the title at Pairc nan Laoch, but the Lochalsh men’s fast start gave them the cushion they needed.
Fraser MacVicar and Neil Fraser’s double had ‘Shiel 3-0 up at half time before Danny Morrison pulled a goal back, but Finlay MacRae added another two to seal victory.
‘Shiel coach Johnston Gill told the Oban Times:‘They did make it difficult for us but in the first 15 or 20 minutes we were all over Skye. We then lost our way a little, but fortunately we scored again just before half time. Their goalkeeper had a fantastic game.’
”Shiel have Beauly away on Saturday in a tough looking fixture – but Gill is determined to maintain his team’s 100 per cent record in the league.
Already with one eye on next season,Gill is likely to promote three or four players from the second team to the starting line up against second placed Beauly as he knows he will need a bigger first team squad to cope with the rigours of the top flight.
