AN INSPECTION at the Belford Hospital has found standards of cleanliness to be ‘very good’.
But the Hospital Environment Inspectorate report also made two requirements and three recommendations to improve standards at the Fort William hospital.
The HEI visit, carried out on July 19 and 20,found the hospital well maintained and the report praised communication between infection control staff and their colleagues throughout the hospital.
HEI said the hospital must ‘ensure that all the appropriate controls are in place to reduce the risk of infection control hazards’ for any maintenance or refurbishment work.
It also said hospital staff ‘must commence national initiatives relating to best practice for antimicrobial prescribing’. Antimicrobial drugs stop or kill bacteria.
Mid Highland Community Health Partnership lead nurse Alison Hudson said: ‘It was clear that staff throughout the hospital had good awareness of infection control procedures and showed good compliance with infection control precautions in place. Work is already underway on the areas where improvement is indicated.’
