On a cold, wet and windy day, 56 golfers took to the Championship Course at Machrihanish Golf Club last Saturday to compete in the spring meeting and captain’s prize.
Despite playing downwind on the front nine holes, which made scoring easier, the back nine played directly into the wind, which made returning home to the clubhouse a battle.
Even though the conditions made golf difficult, there were still some excellent winning scores.
The club congratulated Stewart Blue, overall winner, for besting the men’s handicap section with nett 67, Lee Mathieson, who won the men’s scratch section and picked up the gold medal with gross 73, Catherine Reid, who won the ladies’ handicap section with nett 80, Michael Casey, who won the men’s 65+ section with nett 82, and Jake MacMillan, who won the juniors’ handicap section with nett 75.
On the Pans Course, five ladies took part in the spring meeting and captain’s prize.
Linda Wallace recorded the overall winning score of nett 76 to beat Ann Gallacher, who also shot nett 76, on the better inward half. Lorna Ralston picked up first place in the scratch section with a great score of gross 87.
“We would like to thank Barry Colville, our club captain, for supplying the various winning prizes and to Springbank Distillery for supplying three bottles of 10-year-old whisky for each of the spot prizes,” said a club spokesperson.
