Plans to convert a former church on Mull into a music studio have hit the right note with council chiefs.
Ross Wilson’s proposal for the former Baptist Church building at Bunessan was given the green light by Argyll and Bute Council after no objections were received from the public.
Planning officers this week gave the plan the thumbs up, saying that it would have no adverse impact on the surrounding area.
An officer said in a report: “The application site comprises the former Baptist Church set within a small plot at an elevated position to the south of the A849 public road in Bunessan.
“The information submitted with the application advises that the building was previously the secondary church in the settlement of Bunessan and was used for community activities including worship, choir rehearsals, pre-school clubs, music concerts, and as a space for music tuition.
“The information submitted with the application further advises that the building became unviable for the Baptist Union of Scotland to maintain and was therefore sold in November 2020.
“The proposed development does not involve any external alterations, and relates to internal alterations including renovation and the addition of insulation and acoustic and sound absorption treatment to facilitate the proposed change of use.
“The application proposes to utilise the existing access and parking arrangements and there would be no amendments to the existing water supply or drainage arrangements currently serving the site.”
The officer concluded: “The proposal is considered to be consistent with the relevant provisions of the Development Plan which comprise National Planning Framework 4 and Local Development Plan 2 and there are no other material considerations of sufficient significance to indicate that it would be appropriate to withhold planning permission having regard to Section 25 of the Act.”
